The Opportunity

Would you like the opportunity to develop an in-depth knowledge of site-specific equipment and share knowledge with others across the EDF Group, based in our dedicated control room in Eyemouth and working on a shift pattern? This role will play a pivotal role within the team monitoring and controlling the operation of our NnG (Neart Na Gaoithe) Offshore Windfarm where you’ll be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the assets and coordination of our offshore personnel and vessels, working to safely maximise generation.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be working with the Control Room Supervisor and Production Manager to operate the Eyemouth Control Room, ensuring NnG Windfarm Operations and Logistics are carried out Safely, on-time and to the required standards.

  • Monitor and control a 450MW offshore windfarm.
  • Coordinate with personnel working offshore during operational and maintenance to ensure safe delivery of all planned and unplanned works.
  • Ensure that the windfarm always operates within any Environmental, Health and Safety consent or obligation.
  • Perform safe and controlled release of wind turbines and associated plant for planned maintenance.
  • Respond remotely to turbine alarms and grid instructions.
  • Monitor the offshore HV network.
  • Act as a central contact for coordination in Emergency Response and incident reporting.
  • Conduct planning reviews that require collaboration with contractors on site.
  • Ensure compliance with Wind Turbine Safety Rules (WTSR), site grid obligations and any other statutory requirements.
  • Ensure asset availability is high and in line with contractual obligations.
  • Compliance with all HSE and Quality legislation, company and any site-specific requirements by the teams and reporting of any incidents to the PM updating and maintaining relevant systems.
  • Work flexibly to provide input into wider offshore wind O&M topics including taking delegated authority on an occasional basis.
  • Identify and target areas in which the site and wider business can improve.
  • Play an active role in supporting the wider business including but not limited to safety, quality, technical competence, operational excellence, wind farm development, OEM, and client interfaces.
  • Represent, when needed, EDF UK in Asset Operations meetings, tradeshows, conventions.

What you need to be great at this role!

You’ll have experience in a control room / Control Systems environment, preferably from an electrical or marine environment, also considered are transferable skills involving knowledge of large rotating plant or operational maintenance.

  • Background in Electrical, Mechanical, C&I or similar / equivalent.
  • Competent in the coordination of contractors or sub-contractors.
  • Authorised or working towards authorisation within an HV Safety Rules / Safe System of Work environment.
  • Ability to perform or willingness to undertake duties such as Operational Controller under WTSRs.
  • Knowledge of HV Safety Rules and Safe Systems of Work.
  • A good understanding of electrical system operations with the ability to read and understand electrical single line diagrams.
  • The ability to stay calm and apply logical thinking in pressurised situations.
  • Strong organisational and analytical skills to allow delivery of tasks in a logical and methodical manner
  • Knowledge of the application of UK based Wind Turbine Safety Rules, and industry standard High Voltage Operating procedures and safety rules or equivalents.
  • Knowledge of operational offshore windfarms and associated infrastructure (BOP, WTG and OFTO) is desirable.
  • Knowledge of Maritime legislation and standards would be advantageous.
  • Strong commitment to safety and quality.
  • Excellent PC skills including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to use own initiative, prioritise and work in a fast-paced pressurised environment.
  • Organised, proactive and professional.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and remain calm under pressure.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Confidentiality and ability to handle sensitive matters at all times.
  • Ability to understand and manage risks.
